Provider
STEPS is provided by Ricardo Lopez under the Building on the Land brand.
Apple Health and HealthKit
After you choose to grant permission, STEPS uses Apple's HealthKit framework to read your step-count totals for today, this week, and this month. STEPS requests read access only. It does not add, edit, or delete information in Apple Health.
Your Health data is processed on your device to display the requested total. STEPS does not upload or transmit your step count to Building on the Land, an analytics provider, an advertiser, or another external service.
Privacy-conscious product analytics
STEPS uses TelemetryDeck to understand whether people can complete first-use setup and which basic controls are used. STEPS sends events when the app opens, when each first-use milestone is reached, when Today, Week, or Month is selected, and when retry is tapped. Custom event properties contain only the activation version or selected period.
STEPS never sends step totals, Health data, your Health permission response, cadence, speed, distance, or other health or motion measurements. TelemetryDeck uses a random per-install identifier and basic app and device context to produce aggregate analytics. This information is not linked to your identity and is not used for advertising or tracking. STEPS does not access the advertising identifier.
Information STEPS does not collect
STEPS does not collect personal information, Health data, advertising identifiers, contact details, location, browsing history, payment information, or diagnostic data. The app contains no account system, advertising network, cloud sync, crash-reporting service, or tracking SDK.
Information stored locally
STEPS stores limited on-device preferences indicating whether the Apple Health access request has been shown and which first-use analytics milestones have already been recorded. Step totals are queried from Apple Health when needed and are not kept in a Building on the Land database.
Your choices and deletion
You control Apple Health access through the Health app or iPhone Settings. You may change or revoke STEPS access at any time. Deleting STEPS removes its local app preferences and per-install analytics identifier and stops future events from that installation. Apple Health records remain under your control in Apple Health.
Data retention
TelemetryDeck retains product analytics records to provide aggregate dashboards. These records are not linked to an account, name, email address, or Health record and are used only to understand and improve STEPS.
Children's privacy
STEPS does not knowingly collect personal information from children or any other users. The same limited, non-tracking product analytics apply to all installations. STEPS is a general-audience utility and is not specifically directed to children.
Changes to this policy
If STEPS's data practices change, this policy and the App Store privacy disclosures will be updated before the changed behavior is released.
